2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Boost Troubled Action Game Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Comes After Poor Feedback
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct vision.
The president stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the entire text from the president's communication:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was informative. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a clearer identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to heart and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in this project increases every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and background in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having spent the recent years creating and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the evolution of the game in the months to come.
David
Experience of the New Leader
Brinkman currently holds the role of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman previously worked at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Concept
The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a community playtest. Initially, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description explains. "Challenge the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and tests that change every session. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, gamble everything, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is up to you."
Project Ethos does not have an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but players can expect further news as development progresses.
