Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in prison, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after "new facts" came to light.

This encompassed attempting to break his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's plan to remove the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his son.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a senator, called for a meeting of his followers near his father's house to take place on the weekend.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on online platforms on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the vigil would be so backers could "pray for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our land."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the magistrate's ruling was the potential of Bolsonaro's "relocation to diplomatic missions near the dwelling, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of planning to request asylum through a diplomatic representation", a statement said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the US embassy in the federal district, Brasilia, is located around 8 miles from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

The former president's legal troubles have provoked anger from fellow populist conservative US President Trump, causing him to impose a half-rate duty on imports of Brazilian goods.

Bolsonaro is being detained in a Federal Police station in Brasilia and will have a imprisonment assessment on the following day.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under domestic detention, with digital surveillance.

They also requested that Bolsonaro be permitted to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he required ongoing care for pulmonary infections and other ailments.

Context of Sentencing

He was found guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the national vote to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plan which involved plans to murder his opponent and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder Justice Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The conspiracy was thwarted because it failed to get the support of the military leaders. The current president was sworn in without problem on 1 January 2023.

But a week later, on 8 January, many his backers invaded and destroyed public facilities in the federal district, Brasília.

The security forces stepped in and around fifteen hundred individuals were detained.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by him whose scheme, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, restore order and reinstate his authority.

At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence extremely harsh.

He was also barred from campaigning for office until twenty-sixty - eight years after the completion of his term.

The former president called the legal proceedings a "witch hunt and said it was designed to prevent him competing in the next presidential race.
